Crayon Art

Yay for melting crayons on canvas with a hair dryer! I shared a tutorial for a kids abstract art project over on the MHCM blog today. I would like to try this again with colors that suit my style better. I'm thinking mostly whites, then some peach, seafoam green, aqua, and maybe a hint of silver. Anyway, check out the tutorial if you'd like! (There are tons of others on Pinterest too).  Now, to get the smell of melted crayons out of the house, I'll be baking some fall flavors granola.

Artful Kitchen

Sorry if you've noticed my inconsistent posting on here lately - biking has become my free time activity of choice and as summer comes to an end I need to get in as much as I can! Anyway, onto this post. I Spruced up my kitchen a bit the other day. We have this one shelf off the the side of the room that I couldn't quite find a purpose for other than holding my 4 cook books. The avocado and garland like paintings are by me from a few years ago, and the framed pear is vintage. Adding some art and knick knacks was all the space needed.

Little Drawings

1. & 2. A little self portrait. I am still deciding whether or not I ruined it by painting the blue in.

put a bird on it

I was inspired to actually paint the other day! This is a new drawing/painting/paper cut/collage...ok, mixed media piece I made. And Yes, I put a bird on it. 3 actually. I worked with this bird cut out theme a while back, remember?  I also made a few other little drawings I will share with you next time!

old art

I recently found these water media pieces that I made during my last semester in school (I think). They are from when I was experimenting with water colors/ gouache for a bit. I haven't painted in a while, but these sort of have me wanting to again. Sort of. We'll see.

I am excited to be working on a new project for the Barrett Art Center event "1/2 your age." I will be collaborating with Jeff Johnson, a local artist and friend who creates both functional and sculptural pieces, primarily out of wood. I'm really excited to be working with Jeff because we work in very different mediums/styles ( I'm not great with saws & drills and I'm not sure how he feels about lace and soft colors...) Seeing how our work styles can come together will be challenging but really fun!

things kids make

The things that kids leave behind at my job really make me smile/ crack me up. The pillow pet wearing the plaid shirt...is perfect.

working on

My first real commission! I'm creating a variety of faux bakery items for the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum! The products I'm making will be used in the museum's RiverTown exhibit. Above is just a peak at the begining of the process,and my messy craft table.

vintage books

I am very excited about these old reader's digest books that just came my way!I'm not sure what I will do with them yet but a few stacked on my desk is lookin' really cute. I love the patterns on their covers!

Other than admiring these, I have been trying to get organized and actually make things on my days off from work! I've been making silhouette cut outs on bristol paper and am experimenting with different backgrounds for them. Still not sure where this is going though!
